How do I Configure a Trezor with a 24-Character Seed Phrase?
If you have purchased a brand new Trezor, the default setup is a 12-character seed phrase. I personally do not like that. I would rather have a 24-character seed phrase. Let’s walk through how to do this.
Note: Please read my tutorial on configuring a Trezor with a 12-character seed phrase.
Before I even attempt to do this, I will create an offline virtual machine for security purposes. I am using Parallels to build my virtual machine environments on my mac.
I will download an Ubuntu Linux version and configure it to set a 24-character seed phrase using the command line.

The first command I will run is to wipe the device.
With my Trezor plugged in, I will confirm I am wiping my device.
Next, I will run a firmware update: trezorctl firmware-update
Now we are ready to generate a 24-Character Seed Phrase.
Next, click Backup and write your seed phrase down. You can learn how to protect it here:
NOTE: This is not my seed phrase just an example for tutorial purposes.
Write down your seed phrase and tap Hold to Confirm. Next, select the words it asks and after a few words, you are done.
Now wipe the device again and recreate using your new seed phrase. I am adding this to make sure you can restore your device with all 24 words.
Use the following command: trezorctl recovery-device.
Once complete, you have your self-custodial wallet setup.
